Art Basel 2021
Last weekend, Miami Art Basel 2021 was in full effect and everyone was OUTSIDE!
From Kanye West to Jeff Loagz, social influencers and celebrities alike were there to buy art but learn the NFT market too. Just before the festivities kicked off, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Virgil Abloh, passed away from a rare form of cancer. He was the General when it came to the street wear culture, along with innovative ideas. He will be missed in many hearts in the fashion world and globally. Normally for Art Basel, I'd stay and take in the whole experience. Talk to the artist in the morning and exchange Instagram's by the afternoon, but this year I did a daytrip. I left NYC around 11AM and arrived in the Yams around 2PM. The show I wanted to attend doors opened at 3PM, it was free, but could only cater to 200 attendees. This show was hosted by Earn Your Leisure/UnitedMasters and sponsored by Ally Bank. I pulled up in the uber and found my place in line and filled out my health and safety questionnaire. The sunrays greeted me kindly while I enjoyed them for a good 35 minuets waiting to enter the venue. I met a couple who attended the day before, they gave me the rundown on how it goes. Super simplistic, all there was to do; fill out a health and safety questionnaire and show a vaccination card and you are inside. There in attendance were a few people I follow on Instagram like, 19 Keys, Dj Khaled, Mgthemortgageguy, and others. It was amazing to be in a space with people who all think and live on similar frequencies. It actually felt like home or more like refreshing resting place to learn. Dj Khaled, a longwinded speaker, left the audience with a few quotes that stuck with us, and it made me think a bit longer than usual. Here are a few of the quotes I caught during his interview:
These quotes, since I've heard them, have redirected my thoughts on how to deal with negativity and repurpose them into a beautiful piece of art. Whether dark or light you can make the energy of who you are (or your art) , YOU! I thought it was the perfect analogy for my experience while attending a show at Art Basel. Leah Gabrielle
